PODIUM is proud to share that Korean artist Dew Kim’s works Enrapture and LOOK commissioned for the exhibition ‘Fanatic Heart’ (2022) at Para Site are now acquired by MMCA Government Art Bank in Seoul.
Featuring himself as the holy idol amidst the surrealist apocalypse, Kim‘s Enrapture eternalises the K-pop ‘ending fairy’ pose by framing himself in a delicate wood frame. Employing the lenticular printing technique to emulate stained glass windows in religious spaces, the work epitomises a desire-driven climax in pop culture performances.
Hovering above is the techno-futuristic angel machine LOOK. Radiating a godly luminescence on the viewers, it possesses an iPhone in the crux that transforms those who look above into ending fairies with an illusional filter. Now becoming their object of desire, the viewer experiences an excess of jouissance that ascends them to heavenly skies yet simultaneously plummets them to the inferno of fear.
His new works, One Whispered Pleasure, the Other Promised Pain (2025) and They Swallowed the Serpent and Called It Prayer (2025), are currently on view in 'Ballet with the Devil' until 16 August 2025.
